  • Combines the strength and durability of silver amalgam with the protective features of glass ionomer.
  • Offers better edge strength and adapts well to cavity margins.
  • Provides high translucency along with excellent flexural and compressive strength.
  • Easy to mix and apply, improving handling during procedures.
  • Highly resistant to wear from abrasion and erosion.
  • Clearly visible on X-rays due to outstanding radiopacity.
  • Releases fluoride consistently over time, helping prevent cavities—especially useful for patients with high caries risk.
  • Ideal for minimally invasive treatments as it chemically bonds to both enamel and dentin, mimics natural tooth expansion under temperature changes, and reduces the chance of restoration failure.
  • Can be packed and shaped like amalgam, but without the dangers of mercury, corrosion, or excessive heat conduction.
  • Suitable for Class I and II fillings, sandwich restorations, core build-ups, overdenture support areas, and both pediatric and geriatric cases. Also effective as a long-term temporary solution for fractured cusps, failed amalgam restorations, and in Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART).

Zirconomer Improved is a reinforced glass ionomer material enhanced with special zirconia fillers. It introduces a new type of dental restoration that offers the strength and durability similar to amalgam, combined with the benefits of glass ionomer—such as fluoride release—without the risks associated with mercury. It is especially suited for permanent fillings in back teeth, particularly in patients at high risk of decay or in situations needing a strong base or core.

Key Features

  • Exceptional Strength
Zirconomer Improved is stronger than traditional glass ionomer restoratives, making it a reliable choice for areas of the mouth that endure heavy chewing forces. It has excellent compressive strength and maintains its shape over time.

  • Natural Appearance
Thanks to the inclusion of nano-sized zirconia particles, Zirconomer Improved offers a high level of translucency that closely resembles natural teeth. This makes it suitable even for core build-ups that will be covered with all-ceramic crowns.

Recommended Uses

  • Filling Class I and II cavities in baby (deciduous) teeth
  • Restoring Class I and II cavities in select permanent teeth
  • Fixing broken teeth or fractured fillings that were originally restored with amalgam
  • Any cavity situation where visibility on X-rays (radiopacity) is important
  • Building up tooth cores before placing a crown
  • Repairing margins of existing crowns

  1. Tooth Preparation: Start by clearing away any decay or damaged parts of the tooth. Make sure the tooth and the nearby area are clean and ready for the filling.

  2. Mixing the Material: Combine the powder and liquid components of Shofu Zirconomer Improved according to the instructions. Mix them thoroughly for about 10 to 15 seconds.

  3. Applying the Material: Quickly place the mixed material into the cleaned cavity using an appropriate dental tool, as it starts to harden in just a few minutes.

  4. Condensation: Pack the material firmly into the cavity with a proper instrument to ensure it fills the space evenly. Be careful not to overfill, as this can lead to excess material and bite issues.

  5. Shaping and Polishing: After the filling has set, shape and polish it using a recommended polishing kit. Avoid excessive polishing, as this can weaken the filling and reduce its durability.
